چکیده
We develop a formalism to solve the multicomponent Falicov–Kimball model with dynamical meanfield theory, allowing for all possible crystal-field couplings (including spin-orbit coupling). We apply these techniques to solve models of the intermediate-valence transition [as seen in YbInCu4 and EuNi2(Si1 xGex)2] in the simple limit of no crystal field or spin-orbit coupling. We show results for the uniform spin susceptibility, the average localized electron concentration, and transport properties. We also investigate the metamagnetic transition.

In this letter we study the ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional Falicov-Kimball model. This model was proposed to describe metal-insulator transitions [ 1] and has since been investigated in connection with a variety of problems such as binary alloys [ 2], ordering in mixed-valence systems [ 3], and the formation of ionic crystals [ 4]. It is the latter language we shall use here,...
متن کاملCompetition between phase separation and "Classical" intermediate valence in an exactly solved model
The exact solution of the spin-1 / 2 Falicov-Kimball model on an infinite-coordination Bethe lattice is analyzed in the regime of "classical" intermediate valence. We find that (i) either phase separation or a direct metal-insulator transition precludes intermediate valence over a large portion of the phase diagram, and (ii) within the intermediate valence phase, only continuous transitions are...

In this study, the Co2FeX (X=Ge, Si) Heusler compounds with 30 valence electrons, which are made by using mechanical alloying and arc melting methods were studied. The crystallization of samples was confirmed by XRD data in both manufacturing methods. The results showed that the presence of Si than Ge in the compound played a more effective role to creation a large scale atomic ordering, and th...
متن کاملTheory of Valence Transitions in Ytterbium-based Compounds
The anomalous behavior of YbInCu4 and similar compounds is modeled by the exact solution of the spin one-half Falicov-Kimball model in infinite dimensions. The valence-fluctuating transition is related to a metal-insulator transition caused by the Falicov-Kimball interaction, and triggered by the change in the f-occupancy.
متن کاملExact solution of the Falicov-Kimball model with dynamical mean-field theory
The Falicov-Kimball model was introduced in 1969 as a statistical model for metal-insulator transitions; it includes itinerant and localized electrons that mutually interact with a local Coulomb interaction and is the simplest model of electron correlations. It can be solved exactly with dynamical mean-field theory in the limit of large spatial dimensions which provides an interesting benchmark...
